Bunker Samples has released Intimate Viola - Iremia - Soft Solo Textures, a solo viola library for Kontakt. Here's what they say:
"Iremia" (Greek for quietude) is a deep exploration of the softest and most intimate side of the solo viola. By focusing on only very quiet and soft articulations, all the tiny imperfections and little noises in that makes the sound feel human, is brought to the forefront. This together with the warm sonority of the viola, combines to create a detailed and intimate virtual instrument that feels human - an instrument that quietly pulls you in and whispers you all its secrets.
To capture these quiet sounds, "Iremia" was recorded with three different close microphone positions - in fact, the closest mic is a tiny omni mic placed inside the instrument, offering an extremely intimate sound. The Super Close perspectives is two microphones placed a mere 25 cm above the instrument, while the Close perspective is placed about one meter away. Also included is a more traditional Mid and Far perspective. All together, the wide selection of mics combine to create a very intimate sound full of details and human imperfections.
Whisper quiet sustains and moving textures
Every articulation in "Iremia" was recorded both with and without mute, and for the sustains we also recorded a version with a giant practice mute, producing an extremely soft sound. There are 11 variations of sustains, as well as 10 different moving and evolving textures. Also included are 3 different types of natural swells, 4,3,2 and 1 second lengths.
The library also comes with crossfade patches that allows the user to seamless morph from a muted to non-muted sound - something that is of course impossible to do in real life.
