whiteLABEL releases autoBED, baddASS and sideGATE

Rough Diamond Productions has announced the launch of its new 'whiteLABEL' branded plug-in range with the release of three new VST effect plug-ins for Windows - autoBED (£15), baddASS (£10) and sideGATE (£10).

autoBED is a lookahead stereo ducker with virtual sidechain inputs.

  • 4 inputs, 2 outputs:
    • Channels 1&2 duck in response to channels 3&4.
    • Channels 3&4 are mixed back into outputs 1&2.
  • 10 response curves.
  • 190 ways to fade from one level to another [and back].
  • Lookahead of up to 2 seconds with 'just in time' link mode.
  • 6 levels of automatic presence control.
  • 3 gender settings.
  • 8 presets [also works as a gate].

Radio Production: The classic use for autoBED is when you have a music track and a presenter's voice. Whenever the presenter is heard, the music fades into the background. As the music fades, its presence falls leaving focus for the presenter. When the presenter stops speaking, the music fades back in as its presence is restored.

Music Production: Control the presence of one group of instruments according to the level of another - for example when guitar, organ and vocal are all competing for space within a mix autoBED can reduce the presence of the guitar and organ whenever the vocalist sings, creating a little extra space for the vocal.

baddASS is a bass drum fortification device.

  • 1 input, 1 output:
    • Beef-up your kick with 20 to 200 Hz sin waves.
    • Bend and twist - add punch and guts.
    • Designed for added oooomph.
  • 1 Oscillator.
  • Overdrive with controls for drive and threshold.
  • Bit crusher.
  • 2 Clippers.
  • 2 parametric EQ bands.
  • Adjustable attack [click].
  • Separate controls for 'badd' & 'ass' levels.
  • Dry/wet mix control.
  • Additional input and output gates.
  • Post mix cut/boost control.
  • 16 presets.
  • Envelope controls:
    • Volume
    • Pitch
    • Bit depth

Music Production: baddASS is ideal for sorting out weak bass drums. It can be used to gate the incoming bass drum and therefore reduce spillage, but that's just the start. From storming bottom end to evil cutting distortion, baddASS's drive, crush and EQ sections give you plenty of scope for re-shaping your kick. Add click for more attack, and reinforce sub-bass content with pure waves, Parameters for badd, ass, and mix allow full control over the original bass drum, low-end reinforcement, and distorted nastiness - without using any compression.

sideGATE is a lookahead flexigate with virtual sidechain input.

  • 2 inputs, 2 outputs.
  • Mono, stereo or dual mono operation.
  • Mixable channels & sidechains.
  • Sidechain filter with HP, LP, resonance & gain.
  • Lookahead of up to 1000 ms.
  • 'Just in time' link mode.
  • Channel & sidechain link switches.
  • Sidechain monitoring switches.
  • Response invert switches.
  • Output pan & mix controls.

Voice Production: Use sideGATE as a lookahead noise-gate when, for example, you have a presenter speaking against background noise. Normal gating would result in a bump in background noise as the presenter speaks and the gate opens but with sideGATE's lookahead feature the background noise can be gently faded in before the presenter speaks creating a smoother, less objectionable, sound.

Music Production: When the sidechain is higher than the threshold the channel is audible, when lower it is gated - just the sort of functionality needed to gate a reverb according to the level of a snare drum, a synth according to a hi-hat, a bass according to a bass drum and so on.

sideGATE can also be used to alter the attack of a sound (e.g. soften a solo electric guitar making it feel more like a lap steel) and its panned outputs can be used to create a situation where the position of a sound in the stereo field is switched according to its volume.

Pricing & Availability

Priced between £10 and £15 all three plug-ins are available now. If you buy them all before August 1st you can save £10. Demo versions are available.
