Wire Grind has released Doffset v2.0, a free VST3 plug-in effect that removes both DC offset and fluctuating biases. The plug-in loads with a safe default setting, and no adjustments are required by the user.
Doffset has three different correction modes. Each gives a slightly different trade-off between bass response and offset correction time. To put it another way, extending the bass response lower increases the time needed to shift the signal to zero offset, and shifting more quickly to zero offset reduces lower bass frequencies.
DC offset and fluctuating biases can arise from a variety of sources. An offset is not necessarily easy to visually identify in an audio editor, and a fluctuating bias may fall outside the range of human hearing. These artifacts can be removed without affecting loudness. Doing so can reduce the magnitude of a signal and thereby increase the amount of headroom in a mix.
Doffset v2.0 is the first major update since 2014. The new version includes minor algorithmic updates. It was also built using a newer software toolset, and this should enhance general operation and user experience when used on recently-purchased computers systems and DAWs.
