The LivingRoom Upright Piano - Free Edition is a multi-format light version of a hyper-sampled character upright piano that is currently in production for Kontakt sampler. This instrument inherits the original instrument's rich tone, body & realism and includes select samples from our first microphone position, the close-miked player position. A very intimate uptake of the piano sound with lots of detail and clarity.

The original instrument that we sampled is a 70s-80s large-size Swedish upright piano.

A multi-format version of the free edition is available for Kontakt sampler (5.0.1 or later) as well as for the EXS24 sampler. Beyond this there is also a separate installer for Logic Pro X, GarageBand & Mainstage specifically, with built-in Smart Controls that load with the EXS24 instrument. More formats are in production and coming soon.

This piano was distributed via our website since 2016 in it's original beta release v0.9, but has now been revamped and updated in v1.0.

Main features of the piano:

  • character upright piano.
  • intimate & detailed sound rich in piano body.
  • close mic player position with lots of stereo space.
  • 6 velocity layer recordings, piano, mezzo & forte dual recordings (3 layers for Pedal OFF, 3 layers for Pedal ON).
  • Dynamic Range knob for velocity triggered volume range.
  • pre-track volume output.
  • 2 separate "Raw Authentic" and "Muted / Dampened" upper key range presets
    • "Raw Authentic" preset has a upper key range that behaves like the original piano, playing the entire sound always.
    • "Muted / Dampened" preset plays upper ranges like any other key, dampened upon release.
  • Logic Pro X & GarageBand specific Smart Controls:
    • Dynamic Range (EXS instrument volume range).
    • Bass & Treble tone controls.
    • Compression control.
    • Transient control.
    • Volume output knob pre-track.
  • works for both Windows & macOS, depending on your sampler software.

The GB and LPX version installs via automated installer on macOS, via separate .dmg download.

Next on the plate, beyond the production of our main deep-sampled Kontakt instrument, is more sampler formats and also a "clean" preset, with less unique key-specific character. The original sound of this instrument is suited where authenticity and character meets your music needs.

I tried it. Could not tell when the installation was finished. Then could not locate the instrument to play it.

I'd recommend using an industry standard installer instead of your custom installer.

Hello. Sorry for the inconvenience. As the video in the dmg installer states, the installer is finished when the automator icon in the top-right stops spinning. Then there is also a notification in the notification center on your desktop and on your screen. Alternatively you can also open the manual install folder and drag the 2 folder's contents to the location in your user folder that is stated in the folder's names. The video explains it.

We may add a different normal installer in the near future, but they generally produce non-consistent results in different macOS versions, so until we can verify enough successes with those, we have to stick to this Automator installer.
