dSONIQ Realphones re-creates acoustic environment of recording studio control room in your headphones and corrects their frequency response. With Realphones, your headphones will turn into a reliable monitoring tool for mixing tracks that you can trust.

Everything you missed for sound mixing using headphones:

  • correction of the frequency response of the headphones.
  • emulation of a studio control room with professional near- and far-field monitoring.
  • binaural virtual positioning based on HRTF.
  • frequency response simulation of professional and home/consumer audio reproduction systems.
  • functionality for monitoring spatial and frequency components of the mix.

A meticulously picked set of features will help you understand how your track will sound at a studio or elsewhere without taking your headphones off.

Mixes made on headphones sound good only on the same headphones and often translate badly to speakers or even to other headphones. Realphones technology is designed to compensate for headphones' most prominent reproduction distortions and misalignments when compared to speakers. Turning on Realphones when mixing with headphones will provide a reliable representation of how your mix would sound on professional studio monitors in acoustically treated room and outside it.

The number of Realphones Supported models exceeds 100.

Do you lack a suitable accoustically treated space? Do you have to work on mixing tracks at home, in a room with terrible background noise and reverb, and even professional monitors aren't enough to get the results you want?
With the Realphones plugin the possibilities for mixing on headphones approach the conditions of a professional recording studio's control room. You'll be able to trust your monitoring, making the mixing process much simpler. And your family and neighbors will no longer have to put up with intrusive sounds and loud music.

So you have access to a professional audio studio, and you're not sure how you would benefit from Realphones?
You'll be able to use Realphones for supplementary monitoring in the studio, and also as a primary tool for working on tracks outside it.
In studios with unfamiliar acoustics you will always have access to the controls you're used to.
Modes for emulating various audio devices help you determine how your mixes would sound on consumer speakers, systems with a powerful subwoofer or portable devices, without even getting up from your desk.

Do you travel a lot?
The Realphones plugin is ideal for working on mixes on the road and when traveling. All you need is the plugin, headphones, and a laptop. Realphones is honest monitoring that's easy to take on the go.

From what I see Realphones System-Wide works similar to how Sonarworks Reference, ODeus ASIO Link and VB cable work on PC, between the ASIO driver and the direct CPU calls to the operating system. But RP has a lot more audiophile centric features that are needed for mixing.

I have a EGA Nu Audio sound card, Sonarworks demo was constantly fighting with Nahimic driver of my Nu audio card introducing latency for some weird reason.
RP System-Wide has been very hassle free with my setup Nu audio, FL studio, AKG k240m2's. The latency is within a normal range.

I have clear sense an audio engineer has been working on this, the speaker response emulation is awesome. It sounds like bass drum kick is coming from floor and not in your head, some real interesting acoustic modeling going on, it reminds me how Airwindows VST "Monitoring" plugin's 'Cans' settings worked. I found myself very easy just to listening to music without any fatigued at all when using RP. FL studio has no problems with it.

For PC it is a very good headphone monitor emulation system, I've always used headphones. It's exactly what I needed, other people mileage may vary.

I've been using Realphones for a few years now, since first betas that were distributed in a proffesional circle and were not publicly available. I'm really glad it's finally released into the world and I can put my two cents in).

So I sent my two pairs of headphones (HD 650 and Blue Mo-Fi) to dSoniq for calibration profile. And when I got 'em back and heard 'em through Realphones I was blown away by the difference it made. The calibration alone really opened up the sound and made the center image much more defined. I recently compared averaged profile with my custom one and it's very close, not as detalied but very close indeed.

I use it every day when I'm writing music at night in my headphones and as a an additional monitoring option during mixing (especially to get a sense of kick and bass since I don't have a subwoofer). And when i take my headphones off and turn up the monitiors I hear exactly the same thing! Well, not the frequency response of course but the balances, panorama positions and so on. Its exactly the same feeling as sitting in front of pair of monitors in a real room.

I know a few of my colleagues who just don't like it and don't get it. Its fine, different folks different strokes and a matter of taste of couse. But for me it's one of those must have tools in my box. I have it in my Ableton and ProTools templates already set up on the headphones bus. (Btw, if anyone's guessing how to do that - create an effect rack on your master with two chains, put Realphone on one, add External Audio Effect after it and route it to your headphones outputs.).

I haven't compared it to competitor products yet. Mainly because it just works for me and it's already tuned to my headphones. But when I do - I'll remember to update this review accordingly.

Also, I should point out the reason I jumped on Realphones boat is the developer. He's a professional sound engineer and has deep understanding of all the science behind the plugin both theoretical and practical to such an extent that I felt like a total noob talking to him about HRTFs. He's really passionate and invested in this product, constantly listening to feedback and improving it. So if there's something not to your liking in the plug-in - make sure to send some feedback and there's a really high chance it will be added/improved in the future updates.

Peace.

Realphones turned my cheap SuperLux HD668b headphones into decent monitoring tool.
The sound became cleaner brighter and audio image became more focused. There are a lot of presets and settings, I really liked "Next door" preset because I feel the sound like in another room.
There are many other mix checking options. Mixes made with Realphones translated well to consumer and professional monitor speakers

Hasn't this product just been released? How can you give it a 5 star? How many mixes have you done with it? How the phones sound themselves is of rather low value. The things you mention can be done by an EQ. It is how the mix turns out, if it sounds better in any way when you later play it on equipment, that counts. Mixing with earphones alone is difficult. You have to do the compensation in your head. Does it do this for you? What kind of genre does it handle and which does it not? That is the kind of infromation that should be in a rewiev.

Realphones have been present for quite some time in the market of my area. When I bought Superlux headphones, I realized that something was wrong with the frequency response. And then I decided to try Realphones. During the use of Realphones, I composed 4 tracks from start to finish, I also made a lot of incomplete tracks like many composers and beatmakers.

I tried Sonarworks Reference, Redline Monitor, Abbey Road Studio 3, but Realphones gave me far better understanding of what is happening in my tracks.

I gave 5 stars (although I could have more than 5 stars) because I got what I needed. It is not possible to adjust the equalizer and reverb to get the same result. The program runs complex algorithms that dramatically change the perception of the sound picture. I do not need to make big corrections in my head, because it does the program.

When I get more expensive headphones, I know that I will get a better result, but even now, due to the fact that there is this correction, I can grow as a composer and think more from creativity than about equipment.

I am not very good at writing long reviews, it was enough for me to work with the trial version to understand that I really needed Realphones because I do not have constant access to the prepared acoustic room, monitors, but I have headphones.

I have no dependence on the software manufacturer and I do not consider it necessary to justify myself for expressing my own opinion. I know, different people have different opinions, and I described my own preferences. Everyone can run 40-day demo and draw their own conclusion.

So you signed to KVR in the same day the product was added just to write a 5 star review? Sorry, but that's looks suspicious.

I regularly read KVR news, but did not have an account until recently. When I saw the news about a product that I had a long time ago, I decided to write a review about dSONIQ Realphones, because there are very few developers in the Russian-speaking space, and dSONIQ made eхcellent product that I really liked.

I agree that the trial period is ample. However I do not understand the "present in the market of my area", unless you know the developers of course, which agian makes the 5 stars dubvoious. It is called World Wide Web and it is then released in the whole world at the same time. So what is "my area" and why was it released earlier for you? You must admit it seems pretty suspescious that someone who lives in that specific part of the market (if such thing exists at all), has some problematic headphones, tries this product and then gives a 5 star. Sorry but I do not believe you, thus not the product either. And If I ever needed a product like this, why should I pay twice as much for it than the one from BlueCat? The most expencive one comes from a completely unknown developer with one product only while the cheaper one comes from a developer that has years in the business and a zillion products.

Yes it looks like it is one of the companys own personell (or someone close to them) that has done the 5 star review. What kind of company is this? BlueCat has just released a similar product. I would rather go there. BlueCat is a serious company and Re-Head cost half of what dSONIQ is asking. I do not know any of the two products, but I am being drawn to the 5 star review of the dSONIQ product and after reading it I do not trust it at all. Seems like fake news. Very sad it enters this forum. However, in all fainess dSONIQ offer an extensive trial period, so one can try it out. The review however is indeed very suspecious.

I wrote my review about a product that I like and described only my personal impressions.

I live in Ukraine and with us, in the Russian-speaking Internet segment, dSONIQ Realphones appeared 2 years ago. Then the product was in а fairly initial state and looked completely different. With the passage of time, the plugin was finalized and a few months ago it was released in that version close to what you see here.
The incomes of the residents of Ukraine are low and I take a careful approach the purchase of software. In order to find a solution to my problem, I tried many different plugins.

When you wrote about Blue Cat Re-Head, I was curious and I decided to try it. Firstly, very few supported models and my headphones are not there. Secondly, the functionality is many times less: there is neither a room with near and far field monitoring, nor emulation of various acoustic systems, nor the ability to solo Mid-Side, Left-Right, and frequency components. Thirdly, there is no System-Wide application for listening to streaming services. After this testing, I was even more pleased that I purchased dSONIQ Realphones, despite the higher price.

For me, the usefulness of the product plays a greater role than the fame of the creator.

The more you write the more it seems you are connected to the developers somehow. That is just sad and I whish KVR had some people tracing such posts and removed them. However thx for the comparison of the two products. I can see that the cheaper one has less functions and that can explain the price difference. But still..... your review makes me not buy it as I think the review is not legit.

Looks like some people sometimes forget that there are other countries beside the western ones).

Why you do not consider that the developers could just announce to their native community that they are now presented on KVR and a few satisfied English speaking users decided to leave a review here?

And speaking of usability - i've checked that Re-head plugin, even from the YouTube video it's obvious that there are much less features.

Anyway, dSoniq offers the free trial. Check it out, share your experience with us, i think anyone would appreciate it.

I have not said that the BlueCat is better in anyway, only cheaper. If you prefer the one over the other is up to the need of the user. In fact I have said that more features explains the price difference. I do acknowledge markets outside "the western world". In fact China is leading in many areas of software development. The only thing I have said is that the review with the 5 stars does not seem legit. I find it a false review. It is in the way it is written, the timing and the consecutive answers. It is many strange things in the review that to me does not seem "normal" for a KVR review. Thus I do not trust it, and thus neither the product. So in a way the review does the opposite of what is was supposed to. Sorry if I am wrong, but lately I have seen more and more reviews here on KVR that obviously is not from a regular customer/user, but made to promote a product that does not deserve the stars it is given. This destroys the whole concept of reviews and will only lead to that is is removed totally. So in a way a few trolls destroys an otherwise good concept. Again I am sorrry if I am wrong in this particular case, but there are similarities with other fake reviews.
