How it works

A phaser applies a series of frequency-specific phase shifts to your audio. When mixed back with your original (dry) signal, frequencies that are shifted by 180 degrees phase-cancel, creating distinctive notches in the sound.

By modulating these notch positions, Sheepadoodle Phaser delivers the classic sweeping effect musicians have enjoyed for decades. While analog phasers offer rich and iconic sounds, Sheepadoodle Phaser introduces precise digital control, allowing adjustments to notch count, spacing, center frequency, and stereo width. It provides both familiar vintage tones and exciting new sonic possibilities.

Dial in modulation and phaser settings around 50% for that familiar vintage swoosh, or explore deeper by pushing parameters into sonic territory traditional units can't reach.

Controls

Modulation

• Rate: (or frequency as the symbol suggets) controls the pace of the phaser's sweep, it can be locked to the DAW's tempo (BPM‑synced) or run free by setting a value in Hertz (Hz).
• Depth: Adjusts the depth of the modulation applied to the center frequencies of the all-pass filters.
• Stereo: Introduces a phase offset (0°–360°) between the left and right-channel LFO, this can be used to create immersive stereo effects.

Distortion

• Anger: Adds frequency‑modulated distortion to a focused band of frequencies for aggression and bite.
• Spray: Defines the width of the distortion band, dynamically following the phaser's movement for precise tonal shaping.

Phaser

• Spread: Controls notch filter distribution—wider spreads, target the effect on a wide frequency band or a narrow band.
• Feedback: Controls resonance strength within notch filters, intensifying the phaser from subtle emphasis to resonant self-oscillation.
• Notches: Sets the complexity of the phasing effect by adjusting the number of notch filters.
• Center: Adjusts the central frequency of notch filters, allowing targeted phaser movement across the frequency spectrum.
