Savvy Synth

Reviewed By Warkyuu [all]

Version reviewed: 0.524 on Windows

This is probably one of the coolest plugins I have discovered recently, and one of the best plugins I've seen created in flowstone. It is very versatile in the sounds it can create, and it features a playful and great looking UI.

The issue I had with it below has been fixed. Thank you dev, this synth is incredible :).

Great sounding synth/organ thingy. It is simple yet very effective, and I love the UI. It also comes with some pretty good organ presets if you are looking for some new sounds to add to your collection.

Sadly the main website is down, but luckily I did upload this to the web archive in case you would like to try it! :3

Firefly Synth

Much like the previous synth this one is a bit heavy on resources, however this one is better optimized, making it much more usable. It comes with a ton of options including the ability to stack filters and waveshapers which makes this an interesting tool. It also features AM, FM, additive, and physical modelling all in one.

The only thing I like about InfernalSynth more then this one is the orange and teal UI, which I really liked, however I still very much so like the one firefly features, as it is weirdly nostalgic.

Response from sjoerdvankreel from sjoerdvankreel on June 21st, 2024

I like how you keep stressing "stack filters and shapers". Indeed, like infernal, one of the design decisions from the get-go was to allow filter->distort->filter or distort->filter->distort or distort->distort->filter->distort->filter or anything you can come up with through the mod matrix. It's how most of the presets are done, too. Thanks again for the review.

While this synth is a bit tough to learn, and the envelopes are the janky synthedit envelopes, this synth is very powerful, and it looks great despite being as old as it is.

Download (Includes serial number):

https://web.archive.org/web/20170804195245/http://vstplanet.com/VST_instruments/Synthesizers/CK_X-Jupitae_Flexoid-vst-synth.zip

Tip: If the plugin does not register using the code, or for whatever reason it unregisters on it's own, open the registry editor, go to "Computer - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - SOFTWARE - WOW6432Node - CK_VST," and delete the "CK-X-Jupitae_Flexoid V1.xx" folder. Finally, relaunch the plugin and register using the code. Be sure you don't edit anything else, as you can cause problems on your computer if you do.

K-Whooms is a simple subtractive synth with an easy UI. It will do exactly what you expect it to, and it will not fail to do those things at any point.

The only thing I can say isn't good about this are the envelopes, which are stock synthedit envelopes and are very awkward to work with. Otherwise this is a wonderful plugin to have, as it comes with tons of options and is capable of loading custom waveforms (if those waveforms are 16-bit, which some synths like Serum by Xfer can create).

I have absolutely nothing negative to say about anything developed by Analog Obsession. This plugin is really simple and easy to work with, yet it sounds amazing. It also has a beautiful UI, of coarse. Stuff like this could easily cost you hundreds of dollars, however this and everything else by this dev is free to download.

Trash

Really unfortunate to see what as been done with this plugin. While this plugin itself is not bad, Trash 2 was superior in many ways, such as having a delay, modulatable EQ, and a mastering section, while this only features the distortion and convolve modules. This may be enough for many, however Trash 2 is capable of custom waveshapes, while this is not. Some may find the UI to be better in this iteration, and I understand why, however I think this new UI is visually more boring then Trash 2.

I would argue it isn't really worth even the upgrade price, as even it's most unique feature (that being the morphing of four different shapes) can be done to a greater degree with other plugins like BLEASS's Fusion, which not only is less expensive then the upgrade price, it allows you to use full wavetables as distortion curves. Even Trash 2 to an extent could morph the waveshape.

Not a bad plugin, however it is very disappointing compared to the previous iteration.

This is quite a fun synth. It is an improvement over the original, adding new features, a better UI (even if it's mostly just a simple color change), and fixing issues with the original, one of those being the clunky synthedit knobs. In previous plugins by this developer, the knobs would be both the kind where you drag around it and the kind where you drag up and down. I am fine with either, but when it is both at the same time, it leads to a really weird feel overall. There is a lot of aliasing if you do not turn on fixed size buffers (at least in FL Studio, not sure about other DAWs), which isn't a problem, just a good thing to keep in mind if you choose to try this synth.

There are two things I do not like, the first being that every time a note is pressed, it makes a little beep sound, which can sound good, but not something I want for every sound. This seems to be an issue with lower sample rates. The second is that the envelope resets for all notes, rather then just the one that is being played (which would be cool as an option you could toggle).

Overall one of this developer's most polished synths, however the beep sound you get from lower sample rates is something that I hope is resolved soon.

There isn't much to be said that hasn't already about this synth. It is simply incredible. There are so many options and it both sounds and looks wonderful, especially the new UI which was released mid-2025. It is absolutely worth your attention.
