Once again I take the opportunity to make a general view of all the most interesting "String Synths" emulations for those who are interested by these instruments. And once again, as I have said already twice, I'm gonna make a list with the criteria which respond to the question of the OP!electro wrote:Sample sets have no business in this thread. Ordinary polysynths do not have phase locked oscillators

Are you the sender of the original post?electro wrote:The Title clearly read Divide Down/Paraphonic and no sample set fits that criteria.
No.
The sender of the original post is masterhiggins.
And he seems very happy to have all these suggestions as you can read his first answer here.
So why the hell are you pissing people off? If you don't like the answers and the discussion, get away and let masterhiggins have these answers which seem to be very interesting for him who is the sender of the question!

Try not to get upset man. Some people in this forum come here for drama. While what he said was true as in samples don't do paraphonics, or do them well if they do, the fact is op was probably interesting in checking EVERY option.BlackWinny wrote:Are you the sender of the original post?electro wrote:The Title clearly read Divide Down/Paraphonic and no sample set fits that criteria.

So here is the result of two days searching for the best emulations of String Synths. I have probably passed beside some other goodies which are therefore missing here, but I have deliberately omitted all those which are totally anecdotical.
Below you have:
Here they are:
Note: last update of this list : 2019-10-27
Below you have:
- in blue those which are samples. They are the less interesting products to recreate quite accurately the behavior of a string synth.
- in black those which are not paraphonic (and of course not samples since we said above that the samples are in blue). These non-paraphonic architectures are interesting for recreation of string synths for someone who is not exigent.
- in red those which are true paraphonic. They are the most interesting to recreate accurately the true behavior of string synths. Choose by preference among these products.
- in bold those which work on OSX. (not talking about Kontakt and Reaktor)
Here they are:
- 2getheraudio - Cheeze Machine 2 (it is a recreation of BigTick Cheeze Machine below (after Arturia), and by the same developer)

"The Top Octave Divider Oscillator provides a unique sound that no samples, or other simple synthesis techniques can reproduce. Emulating the T.O.D, without any aliasing on the whole frequency range, with its pitch and waveform modulation, was a real challenge, worthy of XILS-lab. We are very proud of this effort and offer it to you for your inspiration and enjoyment." ... "The XILS V+ would not however be a real XILS-lab instrument if we did not add a lot of functions and possibilities that were not present in the original machine, some giving access to its internal circuitry and parameters. And some being totally new."

How to check if a synth has a divide down oscillator:
Fire up your oscilloscope and press C3, then add C4.
On a divide down synth the combined waveform would always look exactly the same, on a multioscillator polysynth the combined waveform shape will depend on the time at which you pressed C4.
Of course this effect is also audible, but for some people who dont know yet what exactly to listen for to check it, the oscilloscope method will be better.

Hum... You're half-right... and half-wrong.
Yes, you're right his emulations are not sample based.
And... no, you're wrong for the other side: they can't be paraphonic (in my humble opinion) since the reference manual and it's addendum don't talk at all of paraphony, so I think Reaktor doesn't manage the paraphony.
Yes, you're right his emulations are not sample based.
