I own an older version of this. Never liked it, never really got the hype it used to be surrounded by. Also, it can't do high enough Q settings for my liking.
Well yeah, that's what I'm doing right now, but it's rather inconvenient. I also don't see why an EQ clearly meant for tracking duties would be so utterly limited in bands. It's 2015. People have i5s and i7s.Spitfire31 wrote:Use two TB Equalizer in series. $ zero.

I'm a Reaper user, but the tiny ReaPlugs GUIs and horizontal sliders annoy me. I do love the possibility of using insanely high (or low) Q settings though. Might give it another shot.Burillo wrote:ReaEQ is free and can do unlimited bands AFAIK.
I just wish my favourite EQ would get some love. That's why I'm asking Jeroen for some more bands.

RX4 FTW with infinite saved undos...oneshotdeal wrote:Well, I work with sampled stuff that more often than not needs a lot of problem fixing. Reducing hiss and noise almost always takes at least a handful of bands or more, leaving me with no bands for actual sound sculpting. I guess I could edit the sample before loading it into the sampler, but I like everything to be as dynamic and reversible as possible.

RX 4 is $254 in cart at AudioDeluxe and $251 in cart at JRR Shop with the group code. It has a thousand uses, even before you upgrade it to Advanced at iZotope's next mega sale. I've looked at a number of other options (Acon, Wave Arts, SoundSoap), and RX is the best for me. Offline processing is really the best way to go when cleaning recordings.
Seasoned IT vet, Mac user, and lover of music. Always learning.

Bought my RX3 new on offer for $220 I think, upgraded to RX4 Advanced when it changed version numbers. Has paid for itself many times over. It's worth the asking price!

You can use Toneboosters as plugins in RX standalone, with preview and undo! I do it that way with my samples. RX/TB Fix is a particularly good combination.

Just tried the public beta - very nice.
On a rock mix with electric guitars punching a hole in my eardrums I put 2 instances in DDMF meta, split into M/S using MSED, used the 'mix deharsh' preset dialed start/end freq to 2K/10K, set threshold to taste - mostly on the sides, used a little mix (75%) on the mid. Perfect! Made a ham sandwich with the other hand...
Tools like these sure make restoration work a lot easier.
Definitely will pick this one up when beta is over.

It's a shame it doesn't have M/S built in, hopefully that will come in final release.

Try using broader EQ. Tons of tiny notches or boosts often leads to an unnatural sound.

Yes, unnatural sound, similar to what comes out of synths and electronic music.... oh wait...mike the mental wrote: Try using broader EQ. Tons of tiny notches or boosts often leads to an unnatural sound.

"Unnatural" was perhaps the wrong word to use. Just plain "bad" may have been better. Never do surgical cuts unless absolutely necessary.
