Oxygene 2 and Equinoxe 4 for me.alienmachine wrote:Unbelievable! Exactly the same happened to me! Oxygene 2 was THE track that started it all for me to get into electronic music. Before it, it was just drums and piano.AusDisciple wrote:Very interesting interview.
I got an email yesterday that my copy of Oxygene 3 will be here this week and am obviously very eager to hear it.
Oxygene 1, especially part II was THE album and track that got me started on my journey into electronic music nearly 35 years ago.
I'd never heard anything like it before and it completely stopped me in my tracks!!
This happened in November 1982!

The strange in parts self-resonating indianloop in the background just don't fit. Sorry to say but it ruined the track and is terrible sounding really..

Hehe... How did you know ?Chris-S wrote:So you don't like the wouwwouw sound starting at 0:50?Mutant wrote:I would like it if i could remove 2 sounds from it.
The other one is the main melody "trance" pluck, it just sounds too modern for me.
[edit]Heh i wrote "trance" and "modern" without reading what egbert wrote. Looks like i am not the only one who feels this way about the song.

Yeah, the reviews on this one are mixed. Some die hard Jarre fans dislike it, whilst others love it and think this it's the best thing ever. Casual listeners are also split, though most say: so-so or bland/dull.

I like it how JMJ combines the old string machine sounds with modern plucks.Mutant wrote:Hehe... How did you know ?

That's what makes the track so Jarre-ing.
Overall the album is 2/10.

Yeah, somehow the magic is missing. Probably, the factor of having no limits technology wise is playing a bad joke here. I am a huge JMJ admirer and was prepared to embrace this album with all my heart. But I can't because something sounds wrong to me. Could be the modern plucks (notwithstanding the claim that he used only vintage equipment, but his musical mind might've already been corrupted by contemporary EDM). Another drawback imo is that the sound lacks stereo and overall spatial depth of the earlier albums.

I think Oxygene 1 and 3 mirrors their respective era very well.
I see no pint in making an Oxygene 3 soudning just as Oxygene 1 just with other notes. Who would be interested in that?
The first Oxygene record is still there for those who wants to hear that sound from that era.
IMO Oxygene 3 is about the present and the future. Not about the past.

There is nothing wrong with sounds used on O1.
There are millions of people all around the world who love these sounds.
It is like a violin or a distorted guitar, people listen to classical and rock music not only because they like the notes, but also because they like the sound of these instruments.
A good example of how using the old sounds and new notes... Simply works:
I guess most Tangerine Dream fans would love the song.
And this one too:
Maybe if we want a new JMJ 70s/80s style album, we will have to make it ourselves.
