Changes in Bitwig Studio 5.1.3 [released 02 February 2024]

NEW FEATURES
• Swapping from one filter module to another now finds the best match for any filter mode and/or slope parameters
• This works for the following filters when in Polymer (Synth), Filter+ & Sweep (Filter), or any device using The Grid:
o Sallen-Key
o XP
o SVF
o Rasp
o Low-pass LD
o Low-pass MG (when switching from this module to another)
o Low-pass (available in The Grid)
o High-pass (available in The Grid)
• Controller script added for Akai APC64

IMPROVEMENTS
• Note In (I/O) Grid module: Now has an option to receive both Note On & Off Velocities
o This is off by default when loading the module, providing only note on velocities
o Note Grid (The Grid) device: Default patch has the new Note On & Off Velocities setting on by default, setting note off velocities thru for further use [31281]
• Velocity In (I/O) Grid module: Now has an option for which messages to respond to:
o Note Ons (the default setting) provides velocities from note on messages
o Note Offs provides velocities from note off messages
o Ons and Offs dynamically provides both note on velocities and note off velocities
• CLAP: Updated to version 1.2.0
• Controller Scripts: Novation Launchpad Mini Mk3 and Launchpad X: Added Session Overview Mode

FIXES
• Chebyshev (One Knob Shaper) Filter+/Sweep/Grid module: Remove DC filter is now inactive when loading older projects [34737]
o When swapping to Chebyshev in Filter+ or Sweep (or within The Grid), the Remove DC option will be enabled
• Bouncing now considers any input dependencies from track modulators [34774]
• Improved GUI performance for projects with a large number of scenes and a large number of tracks [34662]
• Instrument Selector, FX Selector, and Note FX Selector (Container) devices: Now uses the correct MIDI channel for Keyswitch, CC, and Program Change voice modes [34858]
• DAWproject: Arranger Cue markers are now properly imported [34661]
• ALS import: Fixed an error with projects created by Korg Gadget [34853]
• Pasting notes was not allowed in some cases [34672]
• Keyboard shortcut to Remove/restore Stop Button of Clip Launcher slots now works [34925]
• Toggling a Launcher slot's Has stop/rec button parameter and then undoing the change would show the wrong state in the Inspector Panel
• Detail Editor Panel no longer scrolls slightly when transposing note selection that is longer than the visible area [34855]
• Hardware Controller API: Manual mappings from a button with a light to a toggle also visualizes the state on the light
• macOS: On Monterey, plug-ins should no longer crash when showing the system's open/save dialog [34926]
• Fixed rare crashes when invalid data is sent from some USB devices [30980]
• Controller Script: Launchpad X: Send B is working properly now in Mixer Mode [33493]

What sounds so minor here is actually a huge biggie... glad they found the issue...

Now one can use a midi triggered Segments on project level for sidechaining...
If you tried that before every bounce on tracks modulated by this Segments was rendering just silence!

The new features for swapping filters are nice too... it´s always great when swapping modules matches more or less the previous settings...

I still seem to have access in my account to this even though my License expired in November. is it OK for me to install it? (tbh I have been amazed and impressed they allowed me to update to 5.1.2)

 changes
Changes in 1.2.0

New conventions
extension-id: introduce some rules about extension ID naming.
Stabilize extensions
CLAP_EXT_AMBISONIC
CLAP_EXT_AUDIO_PORTS_ACTIVATION
CLAP_EXT_CONFIGURABLE_AUDIO_PORTS
CLAP_EXT_CONTEXT_MENU
CLAP_EXT_PARAM_INDICATION
CLAP_EXT_PRESET_LOAD
CLAP_EXT_REMOTE_CONTROLS
CLAP_EXT_STATE_CONTEXT
CLAP_EXT_SURROUND
CLAP_EXT_TRACK_INFO
Notes regarding extension ID change after draft stabilization
We changed the extension ID in the process of stabilization which leads to a break.

To mitigate this transition, we've provided compatibility extension IDs which can be used to match and use the latest draft extensions as they are 100% compatible.

For example, CLAP_EXT_CONTEXT_MENU for the stable ID and CLAP_EXT_CONTEXT_MENU_COMPAT for the draft ID.

As you can see in extension-id, we introduced some rules, so this kind of break won't happen again.

We may decide to remove the *_COMPAT IDs in the future once their usage becomes antiquated.

Removed draft extensions

CLAP_EXT_CHECK_FOR_UPDATE wasn't used and it's design needed more thought.
CLAP_EXT_MIDI_MAPPING wasn't used. MIDI2 seems to do it better, and the interface wasn't satisfying.
CLAP_EXT_CV the interface wasn't satisfying.
Stabilize factory
CLAP_PRESET_DISCOVERY_FACTORY_ID
Note: we kept the last draft factory ID in order to not break plugins already using it.

Plugin State Converter

Introduction of a new factory which provides a plugin state convertion mechanism.
Refactoring
clap_plugin_id_t was renamed to clap_universal_plugin_id_t to make it clear that it can describe more than just a CLAP plugin ID.
clap_timestamp_t was renamed to clap_timestamp to be consistent with other types, like e.g. clap_id. Also it was moved to a separate header as CLAP_PRESET_DISCOVERY_FACTORY_ID was stabilized.

Documentation

events.h: Clarify how "Port Channel Key NoteID" matching works
events.h: Clarify how clap_event_note fields map to MIDI, Host, etc...
events.h: Expand clap note expression documentation
plugin.h: Style cleanup
params.h: Fix incorrect function name reference
latency.h: Require the plugin to be activated to get the latency and clarify that the latency can only be fetched when the plugin is activated

Plugin Template

plugin-template.c: implement thread-safe plugin entry init counter

Organization

clap.h no longer includes headers from ext/draft or factory/draft. Draft extension and factory headers must now be explicitly included, either individually or via the all.h header.

Other changes

voice-info.h: Make the voice info id CLAP_CONSTEXPR like all other ids
preset-load.h: Make the preset load id and compat id CLAP_CONSTEXPR like all other ids

Yep, you still get minor versions even after your upgrade plan expires.
Bitwig Website wrote: Will I get bug fix updates after my Upgrade Plan has expired?

Yes, all minor updates will be available to you until the next major update. So if you are on version 3.1 when your plan expires, you will be able to download and use 3.1.1, 3.1.2, etc. Version 3.2 will be unavailable until you renew your Upgrade Plan.

As of today the 7th it is a PRE-RELEASE.

Post

Installed 5.1.3 today.
I don't know what it is but with the last few updates I'm having issues with my projects not loading, they hang on some plugins not loading and each time it's different ones. This time it's XO, Youlean but previously Fabfilter Pro-3, Falcon.
Then a few hours later I try the project again and it loads complete..

engine.log
XLN Audio XO is misbehaving: IComponentHandler::endEdit() was called with an invalid parameter ID:

edit:
XO vst3 keeps misbehaving in 5.1.3, in 5.1.2 it works fine. Something going wrong with OpenGL or DPI scaling or something.
Also problems with Pigments hanging, no issue with 5.1.2
Ah well back to 5.1.2 then, this 5.1.3 update sucks.

I'm not sure if it's the 5.1.3 update from "Improved GUI performance for projects", but after I installed it, bitwig consistently crashes when I try to open "ANY" 3rd party plugin. Now I uninstalled 5.1.3 and opened 5.1.2 and now it works as normal.
I don't use any external graphic card but only use 12900k cpu which has built-in one; may be that is why? IDK but hopefully bitwig addresses this issue and update it.

Did you send in a bug report?

Yet another bug found in 5.1.3
When I click on clips in the clip launcher they are not highlighted anymore, very annoying.
Getting really tired of this release.
