China Ensemble

China Ensemble is designed to represent a traditional Chinese big orchestra. Very few people knew that a modernized traditional Chinese orchestra might be even larger in scale compared to a full symphony orchestra we common see. Sampling such as big orchestra in such scale is never an easy task, even with enough money, time and technology. To make things worse, the instruments combination/settings of the orchestra is also differ in different area of China. So nowadays, the Chinese orchestra found on the market is always a glance of the Chinese orchestra, they lacks both in depth and details. That's why we feel it is our job to represent a full, detailed traditional Chinese orchestra.

After a detailed plan made, we began the project 12 years ago. The project was so big that it seems to be endless one. As the instrument combination/settings quite different in different parts of China, we need to record the same instrument ensembles with different number of players. Thousands of players, hundreds of recording sessions, hundreds of people who works in front of the computers and millions dollar bill/cost are the main memory of this remarkable project.

This deeply sampled collection has over 10TB uncompressed content. Every instrument ensemble section is recorded with multi velocity layers, round robin samples and multi microphone positions.
