Plugin Alliance and Brainworx has announced the release of bx_pulsar, a new creative delay plugin. The company describes it as a versatile tool designed for producers and musicians looking for a wide range of delay styles with an immediate workflow.
At its core, bx_pulsar features five distinct delay modes that cover a spectrum of tones, from vintage hardware emulations to modern digital and granular effects.
The Five Delay Modes
The main delay algorithms provide a diverse sonic palette:
- Air: A clean, transparent digital delay with optional diffusion and modulation.
- Magnetic: Tape-style delay with sub-modes for Reel, Space, Cassette, and Dusty characteristics.
- Circuit: Inspired by classic BBD (Bucket Brigade Device) delays, offering Studio, Vintage, Pedal, and Modded sub-modes.
- Aether: An experimental mode focused on textures with pitch shifting and grain processing.
- Reverse: A reversed signal delay that includes subtle compression to smooth out transients.
Workflow and Sequencing
Beyond the core sounds, bx_pulsar includes several features aimed at creative sound design. An 8-step delay sequencer allows for the creation of rhythmic patterns with per-step panning and one-shot or looping playback modes. This is designed to be more intuitive than setting up a traditional multi-tap delay.
Other features intended to add musicality include a Dual Mode with Ping Pong and Criss Cross stereo routing, complete with presets for polyrhythmic patterns based on ratios like the Golden Ratio. There is also a built-in sidechain ducker, swing and groove controls, a signal freeze button, and a test tone generator for previewing the effect in real-time.
Brainworx suggests that bx_pulsar is a perfect complement to its bx_aura reverb plugin.
