SKnote has announced the imminent availability of Comp760, a detailed and expanded model of an old Compex 760 dynamic unit.
While modelling it at a component level, SKnote added some modern features to take advantage of technology and to make it simpler to use.
Original features:
- Compressor, Expander, Limiter on a single control chain.
- Discrete, single FET gain reduction circuit.
- Two independent channels.
- Separate metering (per-channel), with independent Limit/Expand LEDs.
- Auto release mode.
- Punchy sound with character.
New features:
- Big, detailed realtime graph for thresholds, levels and action of the sections.
- Mid-Side encoding-decoding matrix (use the two channels on Mid and Side components of the stereo signal).
- Sample-aligned mixing of the processed signal with the dry one (easy parallel compression _without_ phase issues).
- Smooth true autogain (quick and simple comparisons between dry and processed).
- Resize-able interface.
- Upward compression. We replaced the original "Gate" mode with an upward compression stage (gating is still available and is the original "Expand" mode). Enhance or dry-out tails. Works wonders on drums.
- Simple. plain text, preset management with copy and paste.
- Linked Compressor and Expander thresholds for an easier placement of the "processing window" on the signal.
- Simplified gain-staging.
Comp760 is a VST/AU/AAX plugin for Windows and Mac OS X systems and includes Apple-silicon-native. It uses SKnote's most recent, transparent auto-activation.
Price: $39.99.
