Extreme Sample Converter is a multifunctional audio program, browser, player, and program editor with advanced conversion between different sample formats.

Main Features

Dual View: You can split converter into two functional windows, allowing you to easily work on two monitors.

External Audio Editor Support: Send samples to an external audio editor and convert them into another format. ESC takes all changes from audio editor (trimming, resampling, filtering, etc.) and then allows you to save these new samples into the destination format.

X-fade Perfect Looping: Set accurate and perfect looping in sample material. Stereo samples can be tuned together so you can set a different loop in the left and right channel and then use XFade.

Loop Editor:

  • Editing of the loop is possible separately for the left and right channel. Not all formats accept this kind of loop editing. e.g. SampleTank and, in general, GigaSampler/Studio don't accept these loops.
  • Loops can be shown in sizes above 1:1, making it easy to analyze and locate the best point for starting and ending of the loop, and finding the best phase.

Real-time auditioning via MIDI keyboard: Listen and play sounds before you make a final conversion by using the DirectX Synthesizer. It's also possible to hear result after patch editing in the QEdit tool.

Parameter Editor - QEditor:

  • Edit many parameters: AHDSR envelopes, Filters, LFOs, etc.
  • The editor checks for the proper range of parameters to ensure compatibility with specific formats.
  • Edit parameter (e.g. Filter, CutOff) for selected parts of the keyboard, and of chosen dynamic ranges without having to arduously toy with layers and zones.

Virtual Disks:

  • Allows copies to be made of media like ZIP, MO or CD to one image file on the disk as well as reproducing the data from one media to another.
  • Hardware sampler users can make copies of ZIP or MO on CD. The CDs can then be used instead of slower ZIP or MO drives.
  • Supported image formats are Nero, ISO, BIN, IMG.

Converting and reading sounds (Files) in different formats:

  • Close attention was given to the most important parameters of the program having effect on the final sound. There are different type envelope curves, filters and complex modulators.
  • Special attention was given to the method of transfer from dimensions of GigaSampler into SoundFont layers and vice versa.

Program structure browser and viewer:

  • The most important information about the sample structure (i.e. layers, zones, etc.) and its components are presented in a clear manner.
  • If you look through programs on an Akai CD, you can see how these parameters looked originally.
  • The program reads only those parts of data which are required to be seen. It's a very fast method for browsing very large banks of GM or Akai data.

Sound files browser:

  • Supports the basic audio formats (WAV / AIFF), plus compressed Ogg Vorbis files.
  • Audio file is kept in RAM. The playback of these file, as well as visualization, is done without disturbance from the disk system.

File searching:

  • Search for files in any directory, disk or CD; nested directories on the disk can be scanned.
  • Batch conversion is possible, finding all files on your disk, mark them all, or select and convert them into another format.

An overview of the sample formats supported can be found here.

I emailed Mr. Grabowski last week, if there's news on ESC 4 because I'd need the independant left-right looping if it works for me. No response and the website hasn't been updated for 14 months it seems. Does anyone know what's going on?

And another question: is there another program with independant left-right looping without splitting the files in left-right?

Don't know anything except I would very much want to know too. I bought ESC in February 2011 on the premise I would get a free upgrade to version 4, but nothing has been sighted of the forthcoming version, not even a rumour. I think I read somewhere he had/wanted to do a complete rewrite. I really hope it's not vapourware since I wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't for the free upgrade. My bad maybe, yes I know, but generally I trust developers. Except for Kjaerhus. :-)

:P did you try to mail him? I still haven't heard from him. Chickensys is a bit similar, they charged me $10 for shipping costs in may 2011 and would send a Translator 6 disc in june 2011. No, I couldn't buy a download only version, it had to be cd+download. Translator 6 came out in december or something but still no disc, lol.

I wouldn't compare him to Chickensys - they just never deliver. Grabowski is a very nice guy. He is probably working in another project. I don't think he makes his living from his products. ESC is still by far the best conversion software on the market. I am also desperatly waiting for version 4 with the mapper since Redmatica Keymap Pro is OS X only and does not any convertig at all.

Yes. The latest update can convert Kontakt 4 files. I am not sure which 4.x versions it's supporting. Redmatica also does not support all Kontakt 4 versions. It does only convert unencrypted files. Logically it does not support multis, but you can just save the single instruments of a multi in Kontakt and convert one after the other.

ESC only supports Kontakt 4.1 and earlier. Chicken Systems Translator converts everything, including the latest 5.3, is Mac and Windows and has been consistently supported for 14 years, phone, email, web. They have a shipping cost added while ESC folds the distribution cost into the price.

ESC does not do any editing, but Chicken Systems Constructor can do this.

Can the current version of ESC (3.6?) edit the regions / key mapping of samples?

I'm holding fire on on ChickenSys until after January 2014. You'll see why, and I promise I'll air it here too.

As for W.Grabowski, I emailed him about 18 months ago, and he said he was unable to continue with it due to absolutely dire circumstances he was experiencing. He didn't elaborate much, but he expressed a desire to return to it. I'll look up his actual reply in among my archives.

Perhaps I'll look at a thing called polyphontics, or I'll write my own.

I'm not sure what "holding fire" means, but u8nc ordered Constructor (not Translator) in 2009 downloaded once in 2009, and that was it. His issue is with the CD, not the program. We offer solutions for him and so far he's not taken advantage of them. Robert, we've posted an email to you, please reply.

I really like this software. I also have Samplelord from the same author. I recommend that too.

As for digital river I've never had any issues with them either. I've used digital river with other software vendors too.

If you have old Akai 1000 CD's and/or sample sets from Futuremusic or other magazines it pays for itself. I also have an Akai S5000 and it's easier and faster to use ESC to convert than to use the built in converter on the Akai S5000. There is still some tweaking involved but I think any converter will have similar issues.

Any News on W.Grabowski he fell off the face of the earth, it would be nice if his software evolved with the times.

Amazing program, he should charge more for it.
