No no not at all, I hope people are more honest about it like you. It is basically like we said a concept / experiment, with the hope people get back to us with critique.

Thanks again

Just want to make sure as I am voting now...I have to place my own song last, right? I think I read that somewhere.

Yes, put your own song last.

I agree with e@rs, it's a shame there is (possibly) going to have to be a large gap in points between tracks that are roughly equal, or enjoyable for different reasons.

Haven't started voting yet, only just about halfway there listening/commenting the tracks but already with this lot I count about 10-15 tracks that are serious contenders to me, for different reasons, and comparing them just isn't easy because of those differences.

Here's another option for the pile: for every track submitted give let's say, 3 points to divide, and make it mandatory to use all points to avoid people dealing out only low scores. Might also not be ideal, only it does give the possibility to score those tracks closer together.

As this is my first OSC, I'm pretty astounded at how many entries there are and how little criteria is given to people to judge with. I've had to devise a number of categories to judge by for myself and I'm sure that anyone who's doing this remotely seriously is doing this too, either consciously or unconsciously.

But it occurs to me that implementing this for the voting might be a good idea. For example points could be attributed for (and these are just thrown here, so don't consider them anything but suggestions):

- Musicality
- Originality
- Textural Creativity
- Production Quality
- Creative Evolution
- Rhythmic Creativity
- Cohesiveness
- Use of effects
- Use of the stereo field
... ? ...

10 categories gets 10 points each = 100, and your done. As judges, it would be easier to attribute points within each category, and then get a total. It would attempt to somewhat control personal bias and it also would have the effect of helping people focus on specific elements of their entries.

Just a suggestion; dunno... maybe this is totally off for the OSC... ;)

Thanks for your input manvanmars. Do you mind explaining the above paragraph a bit more?

This is something we thought about too, and it's really cool. I like how many categories you have. I do this in my head when voting. I had an idea like yours, but with a mixing board. Each category you can set the value rather than give a point. Kinda cute, but cool at the same time lol

The official "OSC Entry Evaluator," And you shouldn't see the output result on the 2-bus till you click on "print". :hihi:

It shouldn't be too hard to find 10 good categories; we could even vote on the categories that we need for voting. I'm glad someone at OSC thought about this. Now back to voting... at this rate I should be done by sometime next week...

Hey guys would this be easier to use? Less dragging distance, more stuff on screan:

Categories is a cool idea for sure. I thought maybe our members can win badges if they get in certain categories... a lot of room here to make OSC more fun (gamification wise)

hello,

here's my submission:

https://soundcloud.com/marcinha-73/dr-n ... -ni-monark

NI Monark x25, Reaper DAW.

Stock presets only, cutof and resonance tweakage seemed sufficient enough to get what I wanted.

the smooth pad was made of 4 individual notes on 4 seperate tracks, then panned track 1 & 3 and 2 & 4 the opposite direction.

Variety of sound:
Bootsy EQ - sum
Resque - sum
NastyDLA - on one track
Reaverb on one or two tracks.

I have a comment saying the track name is spot on and that it's a Bond climate. Thank you, that what precisely the idea of it all.

I am sorry for the very poor mixing and final sound. I don't know much about it, but with NI Solid Bus, PSP Stereo Enhancer and some Guitar Rig FX components - which I had to drop when I realized third party FX aren't allowed (and that was a few hours before deadline and in the middle of the night anyways) it does sound decent.

cheers and good luck to you all
marcinha '73 / Poland

Sounds really good, having leader board per category would be good as people have different strengths, coming top in a category and winning a title "best in blah OSC XX" is as good as winning a prize imho, as you can't put a price on recognition from ones peers . Also voting like this could mean you are more likely compare the track on it's own merits, rather than against each over which can be sometimes a harder and longer process, when each may have it's own strenghts.
