What I was curious to see is which synth most people would choose if they could choose any synth. It's the sort of question that comes up so often on KVR "what's the best..." threads.

I'm interested because I'm not a synthesizer aficionado, and although I do use them I don't collect them like snowglobes, as some do. I just want 2 or 3 that are worthy of investing the time to learn well, and was hoping that OSC60 might offer some guidance.

I was a little disappointed, then, when I totaled them up and saw no real consensus: of 68 entries, 54 different synths are represented. I guess the lesson learned is that there's room for more than 2 or 3!

If anything, a lot of members here will tell you that it's not the synth, but how well you know a synth + how well you know synthesis. On top of that is layering synths, stacking, routing / grouping, and mixing.

Definitely check out the past 58 contests, and see some interesting winning entries though: https://sites.google.com/site/kvrosc/

Many great tracks !
I'd like to see a few more "Any One Synth", maybe once a year.
It is a good opportunity to put some of my purchased synths in actual use.

If I had to choose 2-3 synths, Camel Alchemy would definitely be one of them. It's the monster!

It's very nice to vote with this stacking system. Drag-and-Drop tracks, while still playing! Great technique! Great compliment! :tu:

But why voting on the lower positions? My wish is a Top10 or Top20 list.

I agree completely with this. Stacking the top say 20% of entries is easy and fun, especially with the excellent drag and drop form. Beyond this is most difficult to choose and therefore becomes more tedious.

Lots of tracks. I like the stacking system for maybe 20 tracks, but it gets so difficult at 60+!

Cheers for feedback on the new voting system, keep it coming. There will be a vote on what system to use later on, but suggest we give it a fair chance first as maybe the negatives are just because of the huge number of entries this time + the unfamiliarity of the new system which might be gone for the next competition.

Yes slightly surprising that, but I guess it counts that not all people own all synths and could choose freely.
