Dystopian Waves has released Noesis, a Max for Live device for generating, exploring, and refining chord progressions inside Ableton Live.
Noesis combines music theory, generative algorithms, and genre-specific generation modes to help songwriters, producers, and composers create harmonic progressions for a wide range of musical styles. Users can generate complete progressions, define harmonic starting points, or explore suggestions for substitutions, modulations, inversions, extensions, and alternative voicings.
The device features two primary generation systems:
- Structural Mode: based on functional harmony and traditional music theory.
- Flavor Mode: genre-oriented generation with more than 25 styles, including Neo-Soul, Lofi, Dark Trap, Cinematic, Epic, and Synthwave.
Additional generation options include five logic modes: Diatonic, Chromatic, Advanced, Flavor, and Axis, each offering different approaches to harmonic movement.
Key Features:
- Over 100 chord formats and 20 scales.
- Eleven intelligent suggestion modes for substitutions, modulations, voicing changes, extensions, alterations, and more.
- Automatic transition detection with passing-chord generation.
- Integrated Circle of Fifths interface for key selection and progression development.
- Chord performance styles including Block, Strum, Gated, Chock, and more.
- Timing and velocity humanization controls.
