Muse Research releases v1.9 Update for RECEPTOR 2 Models

Muse Research and Development, Inc. has released a software update for their RECEPTOR 2 line of hardware plug-in players. This update provides a new feature called "Smart Snapshots" that enhances the previous Snapshots feature by allowing you to selective allow or disallow program changes per channel, making it possible to move from patch to patch instantly, and keep slower-loading sample-based presets "frozen" in the mixer for minimal load time. This update also adds enhanced performance when running virtual instruments and effects that support multi-core processors, improves functionality when used with USB keyboards, and adds new Support Tool Diagnostic tests to the system. This update is free to all registered RECEPTOR 2 users, and can be downloaded from the company's website.

Snapshots get Smarter with Smart Snapshots
The RECEPTOR features a "Snapshot" function that allows you to "lock down" the contents of a bank of presets. This feature lets you load up to 16 large (and thus slow-loading) virtual instruments into RECEPTOR's mixer, then "lock them in place" so that you can instantly move from preset to preset without having to wait for the sounds to load while performing. This feature has proven invaluable to the Theater community as well as for rapid moving concert sets where you simply don't have time to re-load sounds between songs or queues.

The only drawback to the Snapshot feature is that it wouldn't let you from change the individual sounds loaded in the mixer - what was loaded and saved with the bank of sounds was fixed throughout that Bank. So if you needed two different organ sounds during a performance, you were required to load in two different organs in to two different channels, and with the limit of 16 channels in the mixer, it was sometimes possible to run out of channels. Now with Smart Snapshots, you can selective "unlock" plug-ins in the mixer, allowing the sounds to change on a preset-by-preset basis, the result being that you can use fewer instances of various instruments, drastically enhancing the power of the Snapshot feature. Now the musician can decide on a channel-by-channel basis whether or not they want an instrument to be able to change sounds in response to program changes from the controller keyboard.

Enhanced Multi-Core Support, USB Functionality, Diagnostics Round Out Release
In addition to the Smart Snapshots feature, Version 1.9 software includes enhanced support for virtual instruments and effects that make use of multi-core processing (like Native Instruments Kontakt 5), the ability to "hot plug" device-compliant MIDI keyboards and controllers, as well as enhanced diagnostic features that further enhance the impressive array of features and functions of the RECEPTOR 2.

The Version 1.9 software update is available free to all registered RECEPTOR 2 customers, and can be downloaded from the company's website. This update requires Version 1.8 software to run, and thus requires RECEPTOR 2 hardware to run. RECEPTOR 1 owners are still able to upgrade to the RECEPTOR 2 hardware for a nominal cost.

“Smart Snapshots removes the shackles from the Snapshot paradigm” comments Kevin Bryson, QA and Support Manager at Muse Research. “This gives users access to a broader set of sounds while enjoying the speedy program changes afforded by the Snapshot feature.”
