I'm a beginner at synth programming and this VST makes it quite easy to get loads of different sounds without presets. The modulation section is very intuitive, and you can go from thumping bass to shrill leads. Nice interface too.

Yeah, I didn't like the original GUI, so I made my own (it's available here at KVR) and it's all good for me now! Deducktion still has a rather small quantity of presets, but I think this is the best sounding free soft synth available today. Yes, it is that good.

edit: way too many requests (I'm sorry)

It could be my go-to synth.

What I appreciate:
- Good quality
- Modulation matrix
- Count of envelopes and LFOs
- Identical OSCs
- Saw waveform is saw waveform
- Light (low CPU usage, flying start)
- Precise and smooth tune params
- Portable
- Customisable GUI
- No presets
- And that's free.

What I currently really need:
- Modulate everything whith everything
- Fm, AM/ring and sync mods.

- Fix some issues on mod matrix.

Thank you much anyway

BTW Deducktion made me sign up to KVR.

Cheers.

This is a great basic synth, I love the oscillators, very useful for simple sounds like that old 80's style pop music, synthpop, retrowave etc. I would like to add an FM oscillator like in Synth1 and a phase knob, that's what it needs to be perfect. The filter responds really well, warm sound, the GUI is very functional. A lot of bugs were fixed, which is good. Best freeware synth I've used in 2018, 5 stars deserved.

Yeah, some presets would have been handy, but i must admit, I had a fun hour or so making a few of my own for this little gem of a synth. I don't know about anyone else, but i think this is a great little bread and butter, hands-on VST which I'll be using for sure.

There is a little problem. When I throw LFO on resonance in lowpass 24 mode, there is a constant crackling. Is it a problem with my computer or a bug?
In any case, a very good synthesizer.

You can control the pulse-width using a Const modulator in the modulation matrix - set it to modulate Osc PW and set the amount between -50 and +50 for the desired pulse-width.

Your synth sounds good, you had my vote....but...I don't like the GUI...

I would like a full access to parameters, OSC, LFO, Env on the same panel and not a switch access...this is not user friendly.

(I'm ok with mod, ctrl, fx access).

Please add LFO & Env on the main panel below Osc, Filter..

Cheers .

What a fantastic synth!.

My only wish is that the presets, banks and skins are not written to a "home" directory away from the VST dll directory. I use Reaper in portable form and its great to synchronise this through a Dropbox directory... but of course then everything for the VST's needs to be together. Is it possible for the "home" directory to be a sub-directory of the dll's location? Or at least give the option to choose the location rather than have it in Users\xxx\AppData\Local?

I love all the Dead Duck VST's.... and the fact they are self-contained!.

Cheers and thank you.

Paul.

+1,000,000 for modulate modulators, I can't see it being that hard to add most parameters as a mod destination and it would greatly increase the flexibility of the synth.

+100,000,000 for Sync/PM (I already asked for sync but ya PM too would be amazing).

I agree synth sounds great. I have been having lots of fun with it ever since I found it about a week ago. The fact that I keep checking it's KVR page is testament to that. This is quality software I wish I could donate to the dev, I'm fairly broke but heck I would be happy to throw some dollars his/her way whenever I could, or I'd be down to do a patreon. I want to see Dead Duck continue to make software. Hell, I was going to have to use synthedit or something to make a simple plugin to swap L/R channel till I tried the channel strip.

Really good synthesizer, the only problem I found is when I whitch ON mousewheel support there is no sound from synth. I always want to click somewhere on the GUI but when I use mousewheel again, it's mute. So I have to decide if I will use mousewheel or keyboard in FL Studio 20, Win8, 64-bit.

Deducktion has been updated to 1.0.5. This fixes a UI bug in the mod-matrix, adds a 'random' mode to the LFOs and two new switches to the oscillator options menu. A sub-oscillator can now play alongside it's 'parent' oscillator allowing various new detuning options such as fifths and 'one-key' chords. Each oscillator module can also be set to act independently of the other by using an alternative output path which bypasses the filter/Env 1 and uses Env 2 to provide an alternative volume envelope.

Hello swatwork. Version 1.0.5 64 and 32-bit crashes my Reaper 5.981 x64. The plugin GUI opens after which it immediately locks up. The last version of Deducktion I used was 1.0.3 64-bit, which worked smoothly.

Finally, because I foolishly deleted the old 1.0.3 version off my computer and have not been able to locate anywhere on the internet to download old versions, I would like to request a download of either 1.0.4 or 1.0.3 (or if anyone else has one of those versions lying around please reach out to me).

Hello. I have a feature request.

It would be good to have "Save As" option for preset manager. Today I created a patch in location 001 and saved it. Then I made some changes to it and also wanted to save the new version within plugin's manager. I had to save it to .ddp file first. Then I switched to location 002 within Deducktion manager. As last step I loaded this newly created patch to the new location 002. Maybe instead of "Save As" we could have option to "Copy" preset to new location within plugin. This would also do the trick.

By the way Deducktion is my absolute favourite synth right now. It ticks all the boxes regarding sound quality, ease of use and timbre manipulation. I love "Osc Phase Random" option. Especially for kick drums. None of them sound exactly the same. Great piece of software ! I recommend it to anyone. Just try and you will be amazed.

swatwork

Unlike most synths Deducktion doesn't have any pre-assigned modulators - you need to use the modulation matrix to assign the LFOs to any modulation destination you want to set up. Click the left and right boxes within each modulation slot to select the source and destination, and drag the amount value in the middle up and down to set the modulation amount.

i love deducktion*.

I do actually a new Preset Bank and hear that despite a Polyphony of 8 my CPU/ and visuals on DSP Graph makes artifact in sound...crackles or.

suddenly stop sound in random moments i release a key. Mostly i dont have sound problems, except know hungy synth.

But even Absyth and a complex pad dont have that kind of audio issues.

So Deducktion seems to be hungry, instead of simple or specific sounds.

Deducktion has been updated to version 1.3. This update includes several changes, including an additonal modulation envelope, stereo oscillators, key split, improved MIDI learn and many layout tweaks and improvements. The effects section has been removed. Themes have been reorganised to provide 2 options: 'extended' (the old single-page view) and 'compact' (the original tabbed-view) allowing themes to be created independently for either view. The extended theme is now the default; select the 'compact' theme to restore the original layout.

First of all, thank you for this incredible synth! Still, it's a pity to know that SFX module had been removed. Now it is impossible to make complex dub, progressive house, ambient and all the similar sounds with reverb/delay. I hope, you will return SFX module in future releases - the module was truly incredible, especially delay with HP filter (magnificent tool for prog house!). There is no problem for me to use outer plugins (your "MonoDelay", for example), but the beauty and convenience of Deducktion with SFX module was that one could get ready, complex presets without making mixer chain with other plugins.

Wouuu... Cool Synth. Version 1_3_0_2, my wishes:

1 - The spectrum of basic waves is cut under transposition (High frequencies disappear) and when switching to another "zone" is renewed again (on the E key). This moment displease. Many high-quality virtual analog synthesizers are singled out in such a way that in the hearing range the spectrum does not disappear on top and does not walk the ladder. It is necessary to make transposition up from key root + increased sampling frequency + filter excess 20kHz. Or much more zones. Even if it will load a processor more.

2 - FX control was better in previous version with knob (digit - not convenient and not visual, despite the fact that compact). At least it would be nice to have the switching option between - digit и knob. And even better if about numbers were very small knobets with a visual display of the position of the handle.

3 - Bad that disappeared CHORUS ... would still not hurt PHASER и FLANGER ... For such dance synthesizers these effects"must have". To save resources, you can release DLL with effects and without them.

4 - And of course, without basic presets, he looks very raw... But he sounds amazing (except to artifacts with spectrum) ... And good opportunities.

At least a dev who doesn't abandon 32-bit. What else did I forget to mention ?
Well, very good synth. I did not expect to get polyphonic aftertouch responsiveness (here called "KPressure") that works instantly as expected. That is a huge advantage.

The GUI is a (very) bit tricky to handle with the mouse.(down=value increase, who would have thought that...and parameters are jumping when touched with the arroow - no value pickup, that's really annoying).
But who am I to complain. It is free.

Thank you for this Synth.

It has nearly all the things I like in a synth.

Great sounding OSCs, nice filter. Sufficient modulators and decent fx. Deducktion and now Reducktion are the synths I reach for for bread n butter sounds. They stand their ground with the best of them. Of course there can always be more features but really....it's the limitations that really make you dig in.

Loving this synth.

However, one slight problem........may be user error.

Whenever I save and name a patch the patch and name shows in the preset folder (the default location) but when I load the preset the name reverts back to "default".

Anyone any clues as to what I'm doing wrong.

swatwork

25 October 2022 at 12:21pm

The name of the preset and the name of the file it is saved to are two different things. When you save a preset the filename presented will be based on the name visible in the Deducktion preset window; you can change the name of the file but this will not change the name of the preset itself. To change the actual name of the preset ctrl-click the text in the preset window and edit as required. Now when you select Save Preset the suggested filename should match the actual name of the preset.

I get this way 'Deducktion' earns listing in 'Wants' - perhaps providing an increased profile for the developer? Well-deserved altruism; potentially helping generate traffic. Or maybe simplify selected as a reminder for the 13 individuals to try this device later, having as they do, too much on at that point.
Still, personally at first glance an odd anomaly.
