The instrument is fully polyphonic, supporting chords and layered melodic lines simultaneously.

Works with MPE controllers, wind and breath controllers, and GeoShred Control, a free iPhone and iPad companion app that delivers a multi-touch expressive surface for live performance.

Naada Harmonica runs inside GeoShred Studio, placing the harmonica's breath-driven, free-reed voice on GeoShred's multi-row continuous pitch surface. The harmonica is defined by two expressive pillars: the continuous pitch bend produced by reshaping the oral cavity, and the intimate breath dynamics that give each note its character from whisper-quiet draw to full-force blow. Press into the surface to shape breath intensity and reed response; slide across the grid to bend into and between pitches with the fluidity of a blues harp player working the low end. Because the instrument is polyphonic, you can voice full chords, layer octave doubles, or sustain a rhythm part while playing a solo line above. GeoShred's integrated FX rack adds EchoMT, Reverb, and AmpCab processing directly in the signal chain.

Breath, Bend, and the Free Reed

The harmonica is a Western free-reed instrument where thin metal reeds, fixed at one end inside small channels, vibrate in response to the player's breath. Unlike most wind instruments, the harmonica produces sound on both inhale and exhale, giving it a uniquely intimate, breath-centered dynamic character. Bending notes by altering the shape of the oral cavity and tongue position is a defining technique, central to blues, folk, country, and jazz harmonica playing. The model captures the free reed's tonal warmth, its continuous pitch-bend capability, and the breath-driven dynamic range from a soft, reedy whisper to a full, driving blow.

GeoShred Studio and GeoShred Control

GeoShred Studio operates as a VST3, AU, or AUv3 plugin inside major DAWs, or as a standalone application. Its isomorphic surface is tuned in perfect fourths, providing a layout where melodic intervals repeat consistently across rows. Pressure and gesture are mapped continuously to instrument parameters, making the surface a direct conduit for expression rather than a series of on/off triggers.

GeoShred Control is a free companion app for iPhone and iPad that connects via USB, adding a second multi-touch expressive surface for live performance. MPE hardware controllers and wind or breath controllers connect directly to GeoShred Studio as well.
