Audio Brewers releases 'ab Encoder MS' - a Mid Side and Double Mid Side to Ambisonics Encoder Plugin
Audio Brewers has introduced ab Encoder MS, a tool designed to streamline the conversion of MS and Double MS recordings into First-Order Ambisonics (1OA). The plugin encodes Mid-Side (MS) and Double Mid-Side (DMS) signals directly into Ambisonics, eliminating the need for intermediate stereo decoding and preserving the spatial characteristics of the original recording.
The software manages all encoding processes internally, removing the need for manual matrixing, polarity corrections, or complex routing. Users simply select the appropriate input configuration, after which the plugin automatically handles the rest.
According to Audio Brewers, this approach allows field recordings, film ambiences, and immersive microphone setups to be transformed into three-dimensional soundfields suitable for VR, Dolby Atmos, and other spatial audio formats.
The plugin supports several input formats, including:
- 2-channel: Mid / Side.
- 3-channel: Mid (front) / Side / Mid (rear).
- 4-channel: Mid / Side / Mid (rear) / Side (redundant).
