KVR Readers' Choice Awards 2021: Top 5 nominations for 'Favorite Guitar Virtual Effect Processor'
By KVR Audio on
We present to you the top 5 nominations for 'Favorite Guitar Virtual Effect Processor'.
During this phase KVR members can choose their preference from the shortlist in each category (or stick with their previous selection, or choose another if they prefer, who are we to judge?) Spread the word, tell your friends, tell your enemies, tell your mum, #kvrrcas. All categories are optional. Please note that Freeware and Donationware products should not be voted for in any categories except Favorite Free Virtual Instrument and Favorite Free Virtual Effect Processor. Everyone can change their nominations / votes at any time until the voting closes.
Blue Cat's Axiom is a powerful and open multi effects processor and amp simulation software for guitar and bass. Based on the acclaimed Destructor plug-in for amp simulations, Axiom offers an infinite number of exceptional tones for your axe.
It includes two amp simulations channels (with pre and post effects) that can be mixed together or used alternatively like a real amp. You can choose your amp models from hundreds of presets or launch the amp editor to build your own, with complete control over the tone. Additional input and master sections let you adjust the tone at the input and the output of Axiom, with 4 additional effect slots each and an integrated high precision tuner. A brickwall limiter also protects the output from overshoot.
Axiom includes 40 built-in effects that can be loaded in any of the 32 plug-in slots, including a built-in version of Late Replies for creative delays and reverbs, and a built-in version of Destructor to add your own distortion pedals, cabinets or additional amp simulations.
Blue Cat's Axiom is not limited to its built-in effects: these slots can also host third party Audio Unit, VST or VST3 plug-ins: you can use your favorite plug-ins anywhere in the signal chain and expand Axiom's capabilities.
And because playing alone is not so much fun, we have added a tools section with 3 additional slots to load virtual instruments: add a metronome, a drum machine, sequencer or your keyboardist's favorite synthesizer there to get it mixed with your guitar.
S-Gear brings the 'boutique-built' ethic to the world of software amplifier design, including three original guitar amps, analogue modelled delay effects, chorus and flanging effects and state of the art speaker cabinet emulation. S-Gear delivers natural and responsive guitar amp tones in an easy to use Standalone Application and AU/VST plug-in
Three unique amplifiers with their own character and versatility are included. The Duke delivers warm sweet cleans and smooth lead tones, The Stealer oozes raw vintage power and The Jackal crosses over into high gain modern rock territory with powerful high gain tones. The Pro-Convolver provides top quality cabinet emulation with two 64-bit convolution channels, musical EQ and the unique 'Z' control for applying tube amp output impedance effect and also includes cabinet models and impedance measurements from the Redwirez collection (Redwirez, Red5Group LLC, NY).
The DelayThing is a boutique quality delay processor achieving BBD and tape emulations. Featuring two character modes (Analogue and Tube), mono and stereo operation, and controls for tone and modulation. The ModThing delivers authentic analogue style chorus and flanging effects. As well as the familiar controls, the stereo section provides great versatility distilled down into two easy-to-use stereo controls - for Stereo Width and Modulation Phase. The RoomThing gives you natural sounding rooms and halls, large ambient spaces as well as spring reverb emulations.

TH-U is the world's largest collection of models in a single software, boasting over 239 models of amps, cabinets, FX, and mics including officially authorized models of highly-prized manufacturers. The culmination of breakthrough DSP technology allows users to swap pre-amp tubes, power amp tubes, and even change the variac of the included amps. In addition, the included Rig Player captures the authentic personalities of real rig setups and reproduces their tones with unbelievable accuracy. With its ingeniously simple user interface, speed-of-light preset preview, true amp-morphing and other revolutionary features, TH-U is way ahead of the guitar amp-simulation curve. But if you think working with TH-U is a blast, you'll be absolutely floored by how good it sounds.
TH-U is able to load rig profiles created by sampling real setups.
The Rig To Model (R2M) proprietary technology allows Overloud engineers to sample and capture the response of an entire rig, including the nonlinear and dynamic response of the amplifier, the cabinet, the microphones, the mic preamplifier and the room sound. Rig To Model technology lets you capture both analog and digital setups. The Rig Player, integrated into TH-U, allows you to reproduce any nuance of the sampled rigs.
Thanks to its innovative DSP technology, TH-U features a new panel that lets you change the pre and power tubes models, as well as simulate the action of a variac. This lets you mod any amplifier model with an almost limitless combination of tubes and opens the product to new sound capabilities.
AmpliTube 5 was forged with 20 years of research and collaboration with the industry's top brands and artists, IK's Dynamic Interaction Modeling captures every nuance of each gear model. And AmpliTube 5 premieres our Volumetric Impulse Response engine, leveraging over 600 distinct impulse responses per speaker to set a new standard in cabinet sampling.
New in Amplitude 5 is an all-new drag & drop signal chain supports up to 57 simultaneous models, series / parallel routing and blended DI signal for unprecedented creative freedom, a new Cabinet section with VIR technology ("Volumetric Impulse Response") which radically transforms all 100+ cabinets in AmpliTube 5 with over 143,000 impulse response measurements in all, a custom IR loader, a brand new mixer with 19 new mixing effects and 129 brand new models, including 2 new stomps, 5 acclaimed amps, 2 new rooms, 19 new rack FX and over 100 completely re-captured cabinets.
Guitar Rig 6 Pro is a multi-effects rack and amp simulator made for creating and experimenting with audio in a way that is fast and direct. Think of it as your own studio, only with more space, less heavy amp heads, and way more flexibility. Design unique processing chains to customise your tones, adding space, warmth and character to everything from guitar and bass, to strings, drums, synths and more.
Guitar Rig Pro provides you with eleven fuzz, distortion and overdrive units. These components are accurate reproductions of classic hardware devices, and sound just like the originals. A fine selection of virtual delays and reverbs are available. Based on award-winning NI algorithms, these units add the right space and distance in any setup. Modulation effects can add subtle movement, vintage vibrations or dramatic dynamics, from a swirling 70s phaser to volatile synthesizer sounds. Guitar Rig 5 Pro offers an impressive range of filter-based effects, from wah-wahs to EQs and a collection of compressors, limiters, noise gates, and volume pedals. Add bite, max-out the levels before running into other effects, or boost your signals into overdrive.
