Drumdrops has released the Vintage Disco kit starting with 4 different sample packs:
- The All Samples Pack
- The Multi-Sample Pack
- The Drum Replacement Pack
- One Shot Sample Pack
- The Kontakt Pack and BFD pack will be following soon.
Here's what they say:
"Here at Drumdrops we love the original Disco era, influenced by many and sampled 1000's of times. So what is it about the Disco sound that makes it so enticing ? For us at Drumdrops it would have to mean a fat low end from the kick but with a little hi end bite to cut through the four to the floor groove, a warm and rich snare to keep that beat focused that of course tonally mixes with a clap sample. Sweet yet fast sounding 15 inch hi hats for a classy open hi hat sound. All Toms low and dead ready for the supersonic fills and breakdowns necessary to hype the dance floor into a frenzy."
"Remo ebony ambassador and evans hydraulic heads for the ultimate disco sound. Gaffer taped, damped with dust-cloths, tuned low and dead, the disco sound is finally back. Recorded with a late 70s sound in mind in a nice tight recording room."
Bonus cowbells, cabassa and tambourine and electronic analogue clap trap are included (in all packs except the Drum Replacement Pack).
The 70s Rogers Big R Kit was tuned for the disco sound. It comprises a 24" x 14" Bass Drum, a Sonor Sonorlite 14" x 6.5" and Sonor Maple 14" x 7" Snare Drum, a huge 18" x 16" Floor Tom, and two Rack Toms, a 14" x 10" and a 13" x 8". The cymbals used were 15" HHX X-Celerator Hi-Hats, a 17" Zildjian K Dark, an 18" Sabian HH extra thin Crash and a 20" Sabian Artisan Ride. The Kit was recorded at the Ironworks studio in Brighton, UK by Mike Pelanconi. Mike recorded Drumdrops' Disco Drops drum track album and set this kit up in a similar fashion.
The four packs released offer different amounts of samples and different patches for different software samplers.
The One Shot Sample Pack - comes with one sample of each articulation as 24-bit or 16-bit WAVs and is great for checking out the sound of this kit or for customers who want the basic sound of the samples to load them into drum machines such as MPCs. This pack retails on the Drumdrops store for £7.50.
The Drum Replacement Pack - comes with patches for Slate Trigger V2, Drumagog V4 & V5 and DrumXChanger. Each pack comes formatted in the software's format -.TCI for Slate, .gog files for Drumagog and .splx for DrumXchanger. Most of these patches include just the kick, snare, toms and hi hat samples - and a varying amount of samples depending on what the software supports. The Trigger 2 patch contains 24 velocities of each articulation and 5 round robins totalling 6000 samples. This pack costs £12.50 from the Drumdrops store.
The Multi-Sample Pack - contains 12 different software and drum machine patches and a total of 1743 mixed samples (from a combination of the overheard, room and close mics). The EXS, Kontakt, Battery & SFZ Patches support 24 velocities of each articulation and 3 round robins. The other sampler patches support up to 24 velocities depending on what the sampler can support. The patches included are for Kontakt, Battery, EXS24, Ableton Drum Rack, Reason, Renoise, Maschine, Geist, iDrum, Studio One's Impact and the new SFZ patch (courtesy of Kent Dawson) which has been tested with Plogue Sforzando, Cakewalk SFZ and Linux Sampler. We have also included over 1300 MIDI loops including over 100 new Disco loops. This pack retails for £22.00.
The All Samples Pack - is a mega pack that contains The Multi-Sample Pack and the Drum Replacement Pack. They also include 7511 separate mic samples from the Kontakt pack. Each articulation comes with up to 24 velocities and 3 round robins and has the separate mic from each drum (close mic, overhead and room). These samples can be used to build your own patch for samplers that support separate mic samples. They have also included an SFZ 2.0 compliant patch which supports these separate mic samples. This pack has been tested in the free Plogue Sforzando sampler. This 4 gig pack sells on the Drumdrops store for £30.00.
