MachineCodex Software releases MachineHead v0.80 beta

MachineCodex Software

MachineCodex Software has released public beta version 0.80 of MachineHead.

This release sees major Fx Chain functionality upgrades:

  • Fx Chain Audio Unit Inspector now displays custom Carbon GUIs for Audio Units if available.
  • Fx Chain units can now be reordered via drag & drop or via Shift Effect Up & Shift Effect Down buttons.
  • Fx Chain now respects the current selection when adding new effects, and inserts the new effect at the next index, pushing any following units up a notch; previously new nodes were always added to the end of the chain.
  • Fx Chain now allows the user to toggle the bypass for an effect without selecting it.
  • Fx Chain now allows the user to click on the effect type-menu to change selected row without opening it's menu first.
  • Fx Chain toolbar button icon now glows blue when 1 or more units is/are loaded in the Fx Chain.

Numerous GUI refinements including:

  • Drag & drop playlist re-ordering.
  • Rotary dials can now be set to use radial or linear tracking in Preferences.
  • Font-size for Source and Track lists can be set in Preferences.
  • New Audio Inspector slider identifier icons.
  • Custom scroll bars & other styling improvements for HUD-style Inspectors.
  • Utility menus for HUD-style Inspectors now pop-open on mouse down.
  • Entering and exiting Loop Mode is now seamless, and no-longer causes re-cueing of the current track from its Loop In point.

Other changes

Visualizer & Media View toolbar split-button behaviour and icons have been changed such that:

  1. When the Visualizer & Media Views are both viewed split:
    1. both buttons' icons display a normal-up state.
    2. both buttons' actions expand their associated views.
  2. When either button's associated view is maximised:
    1. its icon displays a down state.
    2. its action is to contract its associated view (and thus expand its counterparts collapsed associated view).
  3. When either associated view is collapsed:
    1. its associated button icon displays a normal-up-inactive state.
    2. its associated button action is to expand the associated view.
  4. When the MachineHead window is collapsed vertically:
    1. both button icons are normal-up-inactive.
    2. both buttons' actions are to un-collapse the MachineHead window, and leave it in the same configuration it was before collapsed.
  5. The Visualizer View button no-longer changes to an Enter Fullscreen button when the Visualizer is maximised. It does however still act to exit Fullscreen when in Fullscreen mode, as its windowed function is not relevant within the Fullscreen context. Full screen mode can be entered by double-clicking on the Visualizer or Movie view.

Changes to ToolBar Inspector buttons behaviour:

  • If the option HUD Windows Float option is disabled in Preferences, the action of the Toolbar Inspector buttons changes so that they now bring their Inspector to the front, rather than the normal toggle behaviour, allowing the button to call forward an already-opened but possibly hidden (behind other windows) Inspector. Previously you would have clicked the button once to close the window, and then again to re-open it in front of other windows.

This version includes fixes for a number of other bugs and inconsistencies:

  • MachineHead should now be able to playback files saved at any standard sample rate (Core Audio playback would sometimes fail for files with sample-rates other than 44100 Hz, and instead present an alert message "Core Audio couldn't play the file at: <path to file>").
  • MachineHead should now be able to playback files containing any standard number of channels (Core Audio playback would sometimes fail for files with anything other than 2 channels, and instead present an alert message "Core Audio couldn't play the file at: <path to file>").
  • Fixed: When playing a Quicktime file, if loop in-or-out markers were modified, and Loop Mode was not engaged, playback of the next track would not automatically commence once the end-point was reached.
  • Fixed: When playing a Quicktime file, if loop in-or-out markers were modified, and Loop Mode was engaged, if the next file to play could be played by Core Audio, playback of the next track would automatically commence once the current end-point was reached, while the current Quicktime file would also continue to audibly loop at the same time.
