You can get some from Yamaha's facebook page, forgot what it's called, maybe Yamaha Synths or something like that.

That's what I was thinking of. I also just downloaded a free bank for Moog leads from New Loops and noticed I got another really good one called Dark Moon i don't even remember getting.

Another vote for Oatmeal. Heck, I'd pay serious $$$ for a 64bit version but alas ... Regarding flexibility I really tried to get to terms with Crystal some years ago but that multi-tab GUI really spoiled the experience.

Post

I see my post still alive, thanks!

yes oatmeal 64 bit would be very cool. Its a pity that most of the free gems which also are very flexible and useful are also the oldest, and with an awful gui in most cases.

I'd say I still use synth1 to sketch serious patches for his big brothers, its amazing still after all those years. Tried crystal, but the gui needs a lot of time to learn well. Zynaddsubfx is another which could have renewed gui. Cheers.

Synth1 is the all time great, but there are some obscure, gems like Eclipsis (x32 win).
HW SYNTHS [KORG T2EX - AKAI AX80 - YAMAHA SY77 - ENSONIQ VFX]
HW MODULES [OBi M1000 - ROLAND MKS-50 - ROLAND JV880 - KURZ 1000PX]
SW [CHARLATAN - OBXD - OXE - ELEKTRO - MICROTERA - M1 - SURGE - RMiV]
DAW [ENERGY XT2/1U RACK WINXP / MAUDIO 1010LT PCI]

I've had a good time with Synth1 years ago. As to sketching sounds I rarely deviate from my bread-and-butter synths these days, on top of all the two Synthmasters and the AAS collection. After some years e.g. with the utterly flexible SM 2.x and having created a bunch of quick-start templates for the usual suspects (all sorts of bass sounds, leads, pads, plucks, ...) sketching sounds with it has become a pretty quick affair and usually goes much faster than with the xy synths I just don't use often enough.
(Composition wise I sketch most of my stuff in Caustic on my phablet, can't praise this app highly enough.)

The excellent and very versatile Surge is now free (and even open source). It can be downloaded here:
https://surge-synthesizer.github.io/

Another excellent and very versatile freeware synth : ModulAir. And it is awesome when used with SequencAir.

Anyway... All Full Bucket Music's lineup is awesome (and freeware and Win/Mac and 32/64 bit and, and, and...)

Let's add that Surge not only is free now, but went 64bit in the process. And they now have released Surge as VCV-rack modules :o

Another one that went 64bit that stayed pretty much under the radar here is Atlantis. 36-part envelopes, now THAT is flexible :D

Agreed that a 64bit Oatmeal would earn some money from me as well.
CrimsonWarlock aka TechnoGremlin, using Reaper and a fine selection of freeware plugins.

additive synthesis, ring modulation, waveshaping, multi-segment envelope generator)
[*]TAL-NoiseMaker (subtractive synthesis, FM synthesis, phase distortion synthesis, ring modulation)[/list]

All these multi-synthesis synths are free! And some of them have even an embedded arpeggiator...
Tal noisemaker does not do phase distortion
Eyeball exchanging
Soul calibrating ..frequencies
